How to with Teledata: Check your internet speed

We are all about speed at Teledata. From banking to keeping up with our friends, we all rely on the internet to get things done. Slow internet drives us crazy, and we know we are not the only ones! Internet speed matters, but first, it’s good to know what this means.

What is internet speed?

Speed is about bandwidth – this is the number given to you to tell you how fast your internet will be. The speed you get will determine the biggest amount of data you can get at a given time.

The higher the number of Mbps (megabits per second) you have, the faster your online activity should be. Superfast internet is anything over 24Mbps. For example, at Teledata, we offer you speeds of up to 100Mbps for our fiber internet.  There are also upload and download speeds – for Teledata fiber we provide up to 100Mbps for both upload and download.

Depending on what you use the internet for will answer the kind of speed you need, but decent speed is only going to be a good thing!

If you love to watch videos, live edit documents with colleagues, or upload videos, then you need fast, reliable speed.

An article on Sound and Vision gives some examples of how much bandwidth you need for some popular streaming sites. A single SD (480p) video stream averaged about 1-2Mbps while a 1080p stream was anywhere from 3 to 10Mps. Netflix stated its 4K streaming needs up to 12Mbps. If you have low internet speeds teamed with a house full of people all streaming at once this means you are going to have buffering in the streams or degraded quality.
